Jewelry Care & Cleaning
Nine Pines Jewelry is designed for active people. With regular care, your jewelry can stay strong, beautiful, and ready for whatever comes next.
- First, we recommend properly storing your jewelry (see below).
- Second, wear your sterling silver and gold vermeil often. Contact with your skin and natural oils help to keep fine metals shiny.
- Finally, we recommend a Sunshine Polishing Cloth to restore tarnished silver and gold vermeil to a bright shine.
Polishing Sterling Silver & Gold Vermeil
High quality sterling silver tarnishes. Period. Both sterling silver and gold vermeil (a thick layer of gold over sterling silver) will naturally tarnish over time with exposure to humidity, cosmetics, treated water, etc.
To polish:
- Fold the polishing cloth around the silver or gold piece.
- Gently rub the metal in a circular motion.
- Continue until the piece returns to its shine.
- Repeat for each silver or gold element.
- Wash the jewelry using the washing instructions below.

Washing
Regular cleaning helps remove oil, residue, and everyday buildup on cording, beads, or metals.
- Heavy use: Wash regularly.
- Light use: Wash as needed.
- Use warm water and liquid dish soap, or bar soap.
- Gently massage the soap into the beads and cord with your fingers.
- Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
- Wipe silver or gold pieces dry.
- Lay the jewelry flat on a towel to air dry.
* For especially dirty pieces, repeat the process as needed.
What to Avoid
To protect your jewelry, avoid:
- Chlorinated or chemically treated water.
- Beauty products and cosmetics, especially synthetic ingredients.
- Products containing bleaching agents, such as benzoyl peroxide
- Products containing colorants.
Storing Your Jewelry
Proper storage helps prevent tarnishing and tangling.
- Wash and completely dry jewelry before storing.
- Store pieces in a jewelry box or pouch with separate compartments.
- Avoid storing jewelry in the bathroom, where humidity can accelerate tarnishing.
- Add a silica gel packet or piece of chalk to your jewelry box to absorb moisture.
- For short-term storage, place dry pieces in individual Ziploc bags to prevent tangling.
